Tips for Sprucing Up the Dental Office Break Room

Hello Friends,

Take a good look at your employee break room (or space). Is it past due for a good cleaning, decluttering, painting, and/or organizing?  Might not seem like an important space to give attention to but it is! Why? Because you and your employees deserve to take a break (& eat) in a nice, relaxing, and clean space.  

Tips and Ideas to Spruce up the Lunch/Break Room/Lounge

Declutter & Organize the countertops, table, shelves, cabinets, and drawers.

Décor – add some nice pictures to the walls and freshen up the paint

Add some Extras – condiments, snacks, drinks, dishes/silverware, storage containers,

Charging stations for electronic devices, etc.

Bookshelf – add a bookshelf and some books to read during the breaks.

Baskets & Hooks – If this area also stores employees’ clothes, jackets, shoes, and purses/bags be sure to have labeled baskets to store personal items and hooks to hang coats.

Messaging Center – Hang a whiteboard or corkboard to share team news/messages, office happenings, team meeting dates and agenda, employee work anniversaries, etc.

TV Monitor & Computer – Install a large TV monitor for team meetings and continuing education courses. (A webcam/microphone is helpful too.)

Cleanliness Reminders for the team – Be kind & thoughtful – do your own dishes, wipe up spills/crumbs, refill the paper towel dispenser, don’t leave expired food in the fridge, and wipe down the microwave, or toaster oven after each use.

Beverage Containers – Rather than having unsightly, random water bottles, coffee mugs, and carry-out drink containers around the office – invest in some nice water bottles and coffee mugs imprinted with your office name for the team to use at the office.

Here are some practice growth & marketing ideas that you can easily implement in your office

January is National Hot Tea Month. Once again, I am sharing this idea because it is always appreciated by your patients and a little something extra that doesn’t cost a lot. (Remember, you want to exceed expectations, and doing these extra things on top of delivering excellent care and experiences is what gets your patients talking about you to others.)

Gift idea for your Patients: Give away packets of green tea that have a label on them saying “Our Patients are TEA-riffic!”

Service/Treatment Feature: Desensitizing Agents. Many people experience tooth sensitivity while drinking hot beverages. This is a good idea to offer treatments to help reduce or eliminate that sensitivity.

Educational IdeaI’m Not Going to Take It Anymore Day: Jan. 7th – Help your patients to see that they don’t have to take their Crowded Teeth, Yellow Teeth, Bad Breath, Sensitive Teeth, Loose Dentures, Snoring, or Headaches, anymore!  You can help them!

Referring Doctors or Local Business Appreciation Gift Idea

Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day: 30th- Deliver Stress Relief Kits (i.e.: Squares of bubble wrap and chocolates) to local “high stress” businesses/offices. Such as police stations, doctors’ offices, schools, any business that caters to kids (haha), etc.  – most people enjoy some bubble wrap popping.

Incomplete and Unscheduled Treatment Reminders – Do you have any patients with incomplete and unscheduled treatment plans or ones that are due/past due in hygiene? Do what you can to help them see the need and value in scheduling an appointment this month before the end-of-the-year rush really shifts into high gear!

End Of Year Dental Insurance Benefits (or HSA/FSA) Use it or Lose it Reminders – Have you followed up with a call(s), texts, and letters to your patients that haven’t responded to your use it or emails?

Scheduling – What steps have you taken to ensure your schedules will be able to accommodate those patients that wait until the last minute to use their dental benefits before the year ends? Do you have time reserved for New Patients, SRPs, and deliveries?
