Employee Spirit Month Dental Office Celebration Tips and Ideas

Hello Friends,

Running a dental practice is not all about scheduling appointments and caring for patients’ smiles. It’s also about creating a positive and enjoyable work environment for your team.

March is Employee Spirit Month – Time to Sprinkle Some Fun in Your Dental Den for Maximum Smiles!

Tips & Ideas to Create a Fun and Productive Workplace in Your Dental Practice During March

In-Office Team Building Activities

Having fun at work helps in creating a stress-free and enjoyable environment. Team-building activities and events boost camaraderie among your employees. Some fun ideas include having a potluck lunch, bringing in an ice cream or coffee truck to the office, organizing craft sessions, games, puzzles, or even turning the music up for an impromptu dance session. You can also make little appreciation gifts that your team can give out to your patients at their appointments.

Boost Team Spirit with Themed Dress-Up Days

Boost trust, creativity, teamwork, engagement, and productivity within your team by introducing fun-themed dress-up days. For example, you can have Decades Day, Pajama Day, Western, Pirate Day, Fiesta, Hawaiian Day, Tacky Tourist, Sports Day, Superhero Day, or Crazy Hat Day. The possibilities are endless!

Refresh Your Staff Lounge

The breakroom or lounge plays a significant role in the workplace. It’s a place where your team can relax, unwind, and enjoy their breaks. Consider cleaning it up, reorganizing, and redecorating it to make it more inviting. Stock it up with healthy snacks and beverages for the team to enjoy. Healthier Teams

Encourage a healthy lifestyle among your team by introducing team exercise or yoga classes, serving Monday morning breakfast smoothies, or encouraging walks outside during breaks. These activities not only promote health but also provide a fun and energizing start to the workday.

Engage with Social Media

Utilize your social media pages and your Google My Business page to showcase the fun side of your office. Post fun team videos, employee work anniversaries, and fun pictures of your team and patients. This will not only boost your online presence but will also give your patients and potential patients an insight into your enjoyable workplace.

Have Fun Outside the Office

Plan fun activities outside the office like bowling, paint parties, shopping, axe-throwing, escape rooms, cooking classes, or even outdoor activities like nature hikes or pool parties. This would help in team bonding and creating a more cohesive work environment.

Community Involvement

Get involved in your local community. Participate in local events like art fairs, fundraisers, parades, etc. This not only boosts your visibility but also provides opportunities for team building. Don’t forget to take pictures and share them on your social media pages and website.

Invest in Continuing Education

Investing in your team’s continuing education is a great way to ensure practice growth. It’s also a wonderful team-building experience that can result in a happier and more motivated team. Consider incorporating a dental continuing education class with a fun event, like a CPR Course and Pool Party.

Gifts of Appreciation

In addition to simple, yet appreciated, thank you cards; Spa Gift Card, Good Ol’ Cash, Lunch/Breakfast, Purse/Tote bag, Gift Baskets, Plants/Flowers, Jewelry, Movie/Theater Gift Cards, Tickets to Sporting Events/Concert, Amusement Park tickets, Restaurant gift card, Gas cards, and Car Wash Gift Cards.

Regular Team Training

Support your team’s growth by offering consistent training sessions. This not only equips them with the skills they need to perform their tasks efficiently but also shows them that you value their professional growth.  Make sure to give thorough training to all new hires and offer refresher courses to the existing team on practice goals, expectations, systems, software, telephone etiquette, dental procedures, protocols, and more.

How might Samuel Plimsoll be of help to you?

How might Samuel Plimsoll be of help to you?

February 10th is Plimsoll Day. Discover how the Plimsoll Mark can be your secret weapon to tackle work stress like a boss and wave goodbye to those feelings of overwhelm.

Who was Samuel Plimsoll?

In the 1860s, due to the increased loss of ships from overloading, British MP Samuel Plimsoll championed the load line cause. The Plimsoll Mark, still present on ships today, is a testament to Plimsoll’s tireless work to enhance safety standards and safeguard the lives of merchant mariners. Every commercial ship, with few exceptions, displays a load line symbol on both sides amidships. This symbol is also permanently etched to ensure visibility even if the paint fades. The load line serves as a clear indicator of whether a ship is overloaded, ensuring safety at sea.

It’s the mark that keeps you safe (maybe even, sane 😉 )!

Why Should Your Personal Plimsoll Mark Matter to You?

Today is a perfect opportunity to reflect on your personal Plimsoll mark. Life presents various stress-inducing factors that can lead to feeling overwhelmed. Work stands out as a common area that comes to mind. How can you prevent feeling overwhelmed and overloaded in your work environment?

Steps to Avoid Overwhelm and Overload at Work

Recognizing your “breaking point” or “plimsoll mark” and avoiding it is the initial step. While it may appear straightforward, it can be quite demanding. Nonetheless, adhering to these crucial steps could be beneficial:

  • Ensure to get sufficient rest.
  • Maintain a balanced diet with healthy meals and snacks.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.

Work Management Tips

Another way to avoid reaching your plimsoll mark is by managing your work effectively. Here are some strategies:

  • Always work from a list. You can bring order out of chaos faster with a list than with any other time management tool.
  • Focus on one task at a time. Discipline yourself to start on your most important task and stay at that until it is complete.
  • Learn just to say no ~ If you always say yes and take on every project your ship will start to sink.
  • Don’t hesitate to assign tasks to others. Delegating responsibilities can reduce workplace stress and allow you to concentrate on other important tasks.
  • Set boundaries to limit distractions from social media, email, and devices like smartphones, which can blur the line between work and personal time, leading to unnecessary stress.
  • Lastly, infuse your workday with moments of enjoyment to elevate your productivity with a touch of creativity and inspiration. Have Fun at Work!

Know Your Plimsoll Mark

Knowing where your plimsoll mark is will allow you to get more satisfaction and joy out of your workday, and keep you from feeling stressed and overloaded!

In conclusion, the Plimsoll Mark idea isn’t just about ships—it’s a life hack for us all. Pinpointing our own Plimsoll Mark can guide us away from chaos and towards a happier, more balanced life. Hats off to Samuel Plimsoll for his genius touch on maritime safety and our personal well-being!

Thank you, Samuel Plimsoll!

Tips for Sprucing Up the Dental Office Break Room

Tips for Sprucing Up the Dental Office Break Room

Hello Friends,

Take a good look at your employee break room (or space). Is it past due for a good cleaning, decluttering, painting, and/or organizing?  Might not seem like an important space to give attention to but it is! Why? Because you and your employees deserve to take a break (& eat) in a nice, relaxing, and clean space.

Tips and Ideas to Spruce up the Lunch/Break Room/Lounge

Declutter & Organize the countertops, table, shelves, cabinets, and drawers.

Décor – add some nice pictures to the walls and freshen up the paint

Add some Extras – condiments, snacks, drinks, dishes/silverware, storage containers,

Charging stations for electronic devices, etc.

Bookshelf – add a bookshelf and some books to read during the breaks.

Baskets & Hooks – If this area also stores employees’ clothes, jackets, shoes, and purses/bags be sure to have labeled baskets to store personal items and hooks to hang coats.

Messaging Center – Hang a whiteboard or corkboard to share team news/messages, office happenings, team meeting dates and agenda, employee work anniversaries, etc.

TV Monitor & Computer – Install a large TV monitor for team meetings and continuing education courses. (A webcam/microphone is helpful too.)

Cleanliness Reminders for the team – Be kind & thoughtful – do your own dishes, wipe up spills/crumbs, refill the paper towel dispenser, don’t leave expired food in the fridge, and wipe down the microwave, or toaster oven after each use.

Beverage Containers – Rather than having unsightly, random water bottles, coffee mugs, and carry-out drink containers around the office – invest in some nice water bottles and coffee mugs imprinted with your office name for the team to use at the office.

Practice Owners – I would love the opportunity to work along with you and your team to help you set and exceed your practice goals. If you would like to schedule a no-obligation, complimentary consultation to learn how our coaching program works, please email me at bhaydenconsulting@gmail.com.
