February 2022 Dental Office Marketing Ideas

February is International Boost Self-Esteem Month – A beautiful & healthy smile can boost one’s self-esteem and confidence.

February is American Heart Month

Heart Health Talking Points: Dental Health and Heart Disease Are Related

Dental health and heart disease are intricately linked and the cost for avoiding advanced periodontal disease or even something as mild as gingivitis may very well prove to be the cause of serious medical problems in the future. Be good to your heart beginning with good oral health.

Tip: If you’re not currently taking your patients’ blood pressure at their appointments… make it a goal to start during the month of February. Many people see their dentist more regularly than a physician and could get an early warning about high blood pressure when getting their teeth cleaned or having other dental treatment done.

Pet Dental Health Month – Share pet dental health tips on your social media sites, ask people to share pictures of their pets on social media, hand out dog treats packaged with your office information. Even if the patient doesn’t have a dog surely, they know someone who does… a great way to get your office name out there!

Children’s Dental Health Month 2021 Tips and Ideas

Children’s Dental Health Month 2021 Tips and Ideas

Hello, Friends ~

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, what do you have planned to help educate families in your community about the need for better dental health?

COVID-19 has brought about many changes to our world; forcing us to also make changes and edits to our daily systems and protocols within our dental practices and how we engage with potential patients in our communities.

Even with these changes, there are still wonderful opportunities to enjoy the privilege of safely helping the children in your respective communities to smile happier and healthier.

Here are a few tips and ideas for February’s Children’s Dental Health Month

School Dental Health Presentations – Typically, during Dental Health Month visits are made to the schools by dental office teams or children visit the office for an in-office field trip. If the Pandemic prevents you from visiting the schools or from them visiting you what about offering them a Zoom field trip?

Dental Education Via Social Media – Take advantage of your office social media platforms and website to share a variety of fun and educational posts and videos related to children’s dental health. Content Ideas for Posts and Videos:

  • Healthy Lunch/Snack Ideas
  • How much sugar is in your drink or favorite snacks?
  • What to do in a Dental Emergency?
  • Ortho Care While at School
  • Dental Hygiene with Braces
  • Daily Toothbrushing Chart
  • Dental Health Tips (Importance of sealants, fluoride, mouthguards, regular dental visits.)
  • What kind of toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouth rinse is best?
  • Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
  • Tongue-Tie – What is it and how is it treated?

Tooth bags – Make up little bags or boxes with a “congratulations on your lost tooth” message from your office with space to write the child’s name. Deliver these to local elementary schools for them to keep on hand for when a student loses a tooth during the school day. Both of my kids came home from school with their lost tooth wrapped in a napkin or in a plain Ziplock bag. Why not take advantage of this opportunity to advertise your office?

OR what about putting together little ortho emergency kits? that include wax, floss threader with floss, etc. The school can keep on hand for ortho emergencies. 🙂

Give Kids a Smile Day –

Here are some ideas and tips to help you host a successful Give Kids A Smile day in your office.

The ADA website has an excellent Give Kids A Smile Toolbox https://www.ada.org/en/public-programs/give-kids-a-smile  It’s loaded with information such as Planning, Promotion, Forms, etc. As well, they provide guidance for hosting GKAS during the Pandemic.

Advertising/Marketing your Event – Here are just a few ways to do this:

  • Social Media Pages ~ Make good use of all your social media platforms to share information about GKAS day with posts and videos.
  • TV News ~ Fax & Email a press release.
  • Fliers ~ Create fliers for in-office use and to give out to those in your community.

It’s a really fun day – exhausting yes, and a little heartbreaking but it feels good to volunteer your time and donate your services to help so many children in the community.

If you have any questions about hosting your own Give Kids A Smile Event please contact me at bhaydenconsulting@gmail.com – I am happy to help.

Dental Practice Management Tips and Ideas for February 2021

Dental Practice Management Tips and Ideas for February 2021

Hello Friends,

How is your first quarter looking so far? What are you doing to ensure this is a healthy and productive year for you, your office, and your team?

Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.” – Walt Disney

Here are a few Practice Management and Leadership Tips and Ideas for February.

February is National Time Management Month: When was the last time you reviewed all your office systems and protocols to ensure that you’re using your time efficiently and effectively?

If you’re often running behind schedule, investigate as to the reason(s) why. If you know the why… change whatever it is causing you to stray from the schedule.

You get to decide where your time goes. You can either spend it moving forward, or you can spend it putting out fires. You decide. And if you don’t decide, others will decide for you.” – Tony Morgan

Arrive at the office with plenty of time before the first scheduled patient, expect your patients to arrive on time, never wait on hygiene exams, calculate the actual amount of time it takes to do procedures, control the schedules, these things will help you stay on time.

Doctors, if you would like to grow and improve your dental practice and have wondered what it might be like to work with me and what coaching is all about… please feel free to reach out to me to schedule a complimentary, no-obligation coaching call at bhaydenconsulting@gmail.com.

Reappointments and Reactivation – Now is a great time to reach out to your unscheduled patients both active and inactive patients.

Rather than just calling to ask if they would like to schedule an appointment, use this occasion to simply check in to see how they’re doing and let them know you’re thinking about them. This is about building and strengthening relationships.

Take advantage of the different methods to reach them – telephone, text, email, letter/care, and your social media pages.  You’re planting little reminder seeds that you are still here for them during these crazy times.

Here is an idea: February 24th is Forget Me Not Day – This is a day to remember family, friends, loved ones, and unscheduled patients.

Remind your patients to not forget to schedule their all-important dental cleaning, examination, and oral cancer screening!

Friends, do you know how many of your active patients have a future appointment and how many do not? Do you know how many new patients you are welcoming into the practice AND how many patients you’re losing each month?  To help you get that data quickly, like within minutes – if your PMS is either Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental you can request a complimentary, no-obligation practice data snapshot here: Game-Changing Awareness from Dental Intelligence  – Within minutes we’ll identify your practice’s strengths and uncover hidden opportunities.  I am happy to assist you with this at no charge and with absolutely no obligation to do anything further with me.

Telephones – As a team, create your Telephone Principles (scripting guidelines) which include your goals & expectations for each call.

Practice, Practice, Practice how to effectively handle different types of calls and questions until you feel comfortable. A few tips:

  • Answer the phone during hours/days that patients are most likely to call.
  • Avoid putting callers on hold – first, find out who it is and how you can help them.
  • Call Steps: Smile, Reassure, Get Name, Discovery, Relationship Building & Scheduling.
  • NP’s – Always get their referral source. Also, ask if they have any other family members that they would like to schedule an appointment for.

To learn more, see: https://bettyhaydenconsulting.com/2020/01/30/dental-office-telephone-principles/

Insurance Claims – Send out clean claims with the correct information, provider, date of service, xrays, attachments, documentation.  Your goal is to not have any unpaid claims sitting out there past 30-60 days.  What does your insurance aging report look like? (Did you know that your collection percentage drops significantly after 90 days past due? Over 120 days past due it drops to about 30% – you lose a lot of your money the longer these claims sit out there.)
