Hello, Friends ~
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, what do you have planned to help educate families in your community about the need for better dental health?
Field trips to local schools? School field trips to the office? Participating in the National Give Kids A Smile Day?

Here are a few school field trip ideas for you…
In-Office Field Trips – Have you ever thought about hosting a field trip right in your dental office instead of going out to visit the schools? It’s a great way to allow teachers, parents, and children the opportunity to visit your office.
Invite local school and daycare classrooms in for a free field trip to the dentist. Teachers are usually looking for educational field trip ideas and appreciate it if it’s a FREE field trip.
Present Education stations/demonstrations For example:
- Good Foods / Bad Foods
- Sealants
- Proper Brushing and Flossing
- How much sugar is in your drink and/or snacks
- Why teeth are so important?
- How do dental X-rays (pictures) help keep your mouth healthy?
Visit the ADA website and Pinterest for great ideas for presentations.
Toothbrush bags for the students and teachers/parents.
Serve a Healthy snack such as grapes, apple slices, string cheese, and small bottled water.
Show a short dental Video cartoon while the kids eat their snack.
How much time should you reserve for the field trip? They can be done start to finish in just under 2 hours. This will give you time to set up and clean up.
You could easily still see patients on the doctor’s schedule as long as the doctor(s) take some time out to introduce themselves to the students, parents, and teachers. Although, be sure to take into consideration whether or not your patients would appreciate coming in for their appointment when there is an office full of five-year-olds. 😉
Outside the Office Field Trips ~
What: On-site Short Dental Education Presentations/Demonstrations and Toothbrush gift bags for the kids and teachers/parents.
Where: Schools, Daycares, Libraries, Mom groups, etc.
Call-to-Action: Be sure to include a letter to the parents that has some type of call-to-action invitation/special offer for NP appointments.
