Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and yet, many people do not take the time to eat a healthy breakfast.
Smoothies can make for a great, quick & healthy breakfast.
I wrote the following blog post about easy Make Ahead Freezer Smoothies for my blog called Bacon & Kids, Enjoy!
Do you eat a healthy breakfast every morning?
We’ve been told you need to eat within a half hour of waking up and people who eat breakfast have a healthier weight…blah, blah, blah. I know this is all true and I would feel better and probably lose these last 5 pounds if I did it.
But, I HATE eating breakfast first thing in the morning. I’m just not hungry. I will however, drink lemon water, coffee or tea. I can handle drinking in the morning, especially if it’s vodka. (Totally kidding! I wait until at least noon….again, kidding.)
So I just need to drink my breakfast, and smoothies make a great breakfast. Get your fruit, vegetables & protein all in a delicious drink. Plus, it’s a great way to easily get my kids to eat their fruits & veggies because they love smoothies.
However, making smoothies requires time and can be messy cutting up all the fruit. So too often, we decide against making them. Because, I’m lazy like that 😉
Not to mention, fruit can be expensive, and often times when it is on sale, I tend to buy too much and then it ends up going bad before we can eat it all.
So this is what I do now, I buy the fruit on sale. Cut it all up and pop it in the blender along with my other smoothie ingredients. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze. When frozen, I put the smoothie cubes in a freezer bag. When we are ready for a smoothie, we just pop the cubes in the blender and if we want we can add whatever other smoothie ingredients we might have on hand. Adding flax seed or protein powder is a nice addition.
Super EASY! Very little clean-up!
If you prefer, to make it an even easier process, my mother makes fruit smoothies but puts them right in the glass, covers them and freezes. She sets one out the night before in the fridge to thaw for the morning.
I like the consistency better by putting it back in the blender for a minute.
I bought strawberries and raspberries because they were on sale this week. I washed them and cut them up and added some other fruit I had on hand, blueberries, banana & mango. I also added fresh chopped spinach, Greek yogurt and a couple tablespoons of coconut oil. Yummy!
Blended it all together
The smoothie cubes are now in the freezer ready to go!
This can be a huge time saver for you. On the weekend, prepare & freeze your smoothies and easily enjoy a healthy smoothie during the weekday morning madness.
Make time for a healthy breakfast every morning for you and your children.
Happy Smoothie Making to you!
